Really, we couldn’t have had a more beautiful day for our Cleveland Roots Pepper Fest and Open House.  On Sunday, October 14, 2018, the sun came out and shone on the garden for a wonderful afternoon with friends and neighbors of Cleveland Roots!
While the weather was amazing, the company was even more so, as we met new friends and shared a meal, music, family entertainment, and fun. Guests toured our greenhouses and visited the community garden beds, shared stories about our work in the community, including a successful growing season in our community garden, and enjoyed talking with our colleagues doing great work in the area.
The food was a great hit!  Many thanks to Chef Giovanna Mingrone, founder of Stone Soup CLE for specialty pepper dishes that all enjoyed during the afternoon.  The Green Machine Food Truck also created – and donated – an amazing spread of organic dishes for our guests to taste and enjoy.
Dustin and Jordan Kocina provided a cider making demonstration, Allen Stay (aka, Swifty the Clown) offered creative balloon sculptures, animals and wearable art,  Alison Fawcett spent the afternoon facepainting with the kiddos, and our friends at Art House offered arts and crafts for all who attended.  We thank them and all who made the event unique and special, especially our new friends at Cleveland Public Library who brought books and other items for the kids, our OSU Extension Master Gardeners, the Care-a-Van crew, and Miss Sydney who had games and samples of her G.O. Fresh Brands Maple Water (we highly recommend it!).
Special thanks to the Shadowing Case by Case volunteers, our faithful helpers, Jon, Ellen, Ebie and Lisa, Manuel who went door-to-door to get the word out to neighbors, and all our Board members who spent a lot of time helping prepare for the event and helping make everything run smoothly.  Our day-of event volunteers and sponsors, Lisa, Renee, Judy, Bob, Leha and all who jumped in to help, rounded out the capable team and made it an incredibly fun day.
Last, but not least, we are grateful for all who attended and who have shown support for Cleveland Roots throughout the year. It was great to meet new neighbors as well as spend the last warm October day with all our community gardeners!
Although we have closed the gardens for the winter, we promise to keep you posted on our plans. See you in the Spring!
